Active Subwoofers

An active subwoofer is a speaker specifically designed for low frequencies, with a built-in amplifier. This means you don't need a separate amplifier. You just plug it in and you're ready to play. This makes it easy and quick to use. A passive subwoofer works differently: it always needs a separate amplifier. Active subwoofers are therefore more convenient for DJs and musicians who want to set up quickly or are often on the go.

Some models also have useful extras, such as adjustable filters or sound settings. This allows you to precisely adapt the sound to the space you're playing in. Whether you're playing mellow lounge music or want to make a dance floor vibrate, you can tune the bass to your style.

Where to place a subwoofer?

Where you place your subwoofer makes a big difference to the sound. Don't put it completely in a corner, as the bass often sounds muddy then. It often sounds better if it's in line with your other speakers, for example in the middle or slightly next to them. Experiment with the distance to the wall and listen to where the bass sounds best. The sound changes when the room is full of people compared to when it's empty. So always test it beforehand. You can also work with two subwoofers for a more even spread of low frequencies, especially in wider or larger spaces.
